On Holy or Maundy* Thursday evening we offer a traditional service of Holy Communion including “the stripping of the church” in preparation for Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper when Jesus shared the Passover meal with his disciples on the night before he was crucified. In contrast to the joy of Easter morning when we worship our risen Savior, the Maundy Thursday service is solemn, marked by the shadow of Jesus’ betrayal.
What Does “Maundy” Mean? – Derived from the Latin word mandatum (i.e. mandate), meaning “commandment,” Maundy refers to the commands Jesus gave his disciples at the Last Supper: to love with humility by serving one another and to remember his sacrifice.

First United Methodist Church The Colony presents the Seven Last Words by Michael John Trotta with soloists, choir and orchestra on Good Friday, the day commemorating the Crucifixion of Christ.
From the early days of Christianity, Good Friday was observed as a day of sorrow and penance, and Christians have gathered together to remember this day, listening to the passion story. The Seven Last Words of Christ from the Cross are seven sayings uttered by Jesus between his crucifixion and death at Calvary as recorded in the four Canonical Gospels. Many composers have been inspired by these texts and have set them to music since 1500.
Trotta’s seven-movement choral journey through the Passion will be a meaningful opportunity to think about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection as we share this special service with the people in our community.
Christ is Risen! Alleluia!
6:45 AM – Sunrise service on the North Lawn with music and sunrise message.
8:30 & 11:00 AM – Traditional Easter services with music and special message.
