Part 3 of the dialogue about our Social Creed – feeding the poor plus more

I appreciate the responses to part one about creation. Yes, we sometimes get ahead of ourselves in the process of how best to be responsible for God’s creation and create other problems. That is why it is so important to continue the dialogue. Last Sunday, the third part of our series addressed how much of [...]

Creation

We just kicked off a 4-part sermon series on a dialogue about the Social Creed of the United Methodist Church. Part I of the Creed concerns creation. We say that biblically, we know that God created everything good, that God wills healing and wholeness for all creation, and that we are called to participate in [...]

FUMC is conspiring this year to celebrate the Advent season in all its mystery and wonder. This morning’s Uncluttered Heart devotional calls upon us to ask ourselves what challenges are keeping us from reaching the stillness of God. What do we need to do in order to find a quiet space this season. For many of us, it is purposefully setting aside the time – just a small piece of it. For others, it is simplifying our “list” of things to do and buy during this season. Whatever it is for you, I hope that you take the time to stop, breathe, and listen for God’s wisdom and instruction.

Feeling like a Broken Egg?

Next week our church, like many other churches, is sending out postcards to area homes, inviting people to come home for Easter. The eggs are named faith, hope and love. A variation of that popular theme is the new “Feeling like a Broken Egg.” Four volunteer writers and counselors are preparing helpful messages for those [...]

I hope that all of you out there are enjoying this unique “square root” day! There are very few days like this one; you know, the square root of 9 is 3! 3 squared is 9. Today is 3/3/9! I don’t know what you are doing to celebrate. I brought “Root” beer for the staff meeting this morning! It occurred to me that the Root of FUMC is Christ and that Root is with each of us every day. Be rooted!!

February emphasis is Presence

Dear Church Family, In 2009, we are emphasizing monthly one part of the covenant we make when we become part of the United Methodist Church. If you have not already heard from the pulpit, a significant change has been made to the question the church asks of its new members. We now ask, “Will you [...]
