Dear Church Family,
In 2009, we are emphasizing monthly one part of the covenant we make when we become part of the United Methodist Church. If you have not already heard from the pulpit, a significant change has been made to the question the church asks of its new members.
We now ask, “Will you be loyal to Jesus Christ through the United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness?” The words in bold are our new addition.
Isn’t that amazing? Amazing that it took us this long to articulate what we intended all along!! When you come to worship on any given Sunday during “Ordinary Time,” you will find that we are emphasizing one of the five elements of the covenant. In January, we emphasized prayer. We offered a prayer vigil and celebrated having a community of faith where we can share in each other’s struggles and joys.
In February, we are emphasizing presence.
According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, presence is “the fact or condition of being present.”
Here is my challenge to you. Think of someone whose presence means so much to you in worship. Then tell that someone how much their presence means to you!!! What a difference you can make in that someone’s life!
